Kind Words About Our
Proposal Critiques

Marisa was so incredibly helpful and supportive. She was thorough and honest with proposal critiquing and generous with her knowledge of literary practices. I learned so much within the hour of our meeting and gained a better understanding of my next steps.

BOOK PROPOSAL CRITIQUE

Your book proposal and sample chapters are two of the most important items necessary in securing a traditional book publishing deal. With just one chance to impress editors, you will want to make sure these documents are attention-grabbing, concise, powerful, and properly organized.

You may be asking, who needs this service? The answer is anyone who is about to begin querying agents or publishers with a nonfiction manuscript and wants a professional set of eyes on their completed book proposal and sample chapters. Also, any writer who has started querying agents but is not receiving responses or is continually receiving rejections without much feedback could benefit from this service. When this happens, there are typically areas within the current proposal that can be tweaked. And last, any writer who wants to ensure their proposal and/or sample chapters have all of the necessary content and information editors look for, presented in a way that grabs one's attention.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Analyze your overview to determine if it is concise, informative, and grabs the reader’s attention.

  • Determine if your audience and demographics sections have been thoroughly researched and introduced to the agent/editor.

  • Assess your competitive titles.

  • Evaluate your reader takeaway, platform, and bio sections.

  • Establish if the first page of your proposal and your first chapter hook the reader.

  • Determine if the proposal is organized properly and enjoyable to read.

  • Analyze whether or not the proposal explains to agents or publishers the need for the book and why you are the ideal person to discuss the subject matter.

  • Feedback provided during a 45 min Zoom call (highly recommended, so you can ask questions), or via email/Word document. And extra 30 min Zoom option (75 minutes total) is available for an extra $29.

  • Please note, I will need 7 days from receiving your book proposal/samples before we schedule our review session.
